Does anybody know how to solve this? I can't get the answer
It's supposed to be 8m/s
Thanks in advance!

Use one of the well known formulas for uniform acceleration: $\displaystyle s = ut + \frac{1}{2} at^2$.

Substitute the given data and solve for u.

Wow, thanks, I got the right answer!
This formula isn't in my syllable yet though, I think they're expecting me to solve it in a, well, more tedious way, since they're offering 7 marks. What are other ways to solve this?

if this problem is for a grade, then MHF policy prohibits assistance.

Then your job is to derive the formula from the hints you were given. Or to go to an appropriate textbook and review the derivation.
