# Thread: area under the curve

1. ## area under the curve

Would someone please show me an example of a problem step by step for area undere the curve. I skipped this section and did the home work for definite and indefinite integrals but the book does not do a good job of explaining this. I am sure missing the class on this section did not help either.
I would appreciate any examples and explainations.
Thank You,
Keith

why not give us an example to work through?

3. ## example of area under the curve

Estimate the area under the graph of F(x) = 4x^2 + 4x + 4 from x=5 to x=8.
Using approximating rectangles and right endpoints.
R3 = ?
Using 3 approximating rectangles and left endpoints.
L3 = ?
Thank You,

4. $\int_5^8f(x)\,dx=\int_5^8(4x^2+4x+4)\,dx$

Does that make sense?

I dunno if you can handle it with integrals.
