# Thread: partial differentiation variance truncated normal distribution

1. ## partial differentiation variance truncated normal distribution

Hi everyone,

I have been working on the partial differentiation, but I have not been succesfull so far. Therefore I hoped someone here could help me solve it.

The variance:

What is the best way of partially differentiating w.r.t. this thing? I tried maple, but it gives an answer with which I can't work.

I tried to copy paste it here, but that didn't work, nor did uploading as a picture..

I hope someone has some good advice.

Regards,
Dirk

2. I have no idea what you mean by "What is the best way of partially differentiating w.r.t. this thing?" You differentiate a function with respect to a variable. I suspect you meant to differentiate that "thing" wrt to a variable rather than "w.r.t. this thing". But what are the variables?

3. Thanks for replying so quickly. Firstly, I made a mistake. I need to derive this formula. The variables are a, b and mu. So I am going to derive this following with respect to a, b and mu.

Secondly, before you get to it, I would like try it myself again. Simply because this one is much easier to derive, I think.

Again thanks for your quick reply. I do not want to get others to go through the trouble.
