Thread: Conceptual help (reduction formulas)

Not entirely sure if this is allowed, however, I decided I would give it a try. I've been having exceptional troubles understanding reduction formulas and how they work. I've looked online, and in my textbook, yet I cannot understand. I know they would make my life easier....
Does anyone have some tips or any information that could help?

What does any of that mean? Reduce what?

Reduction formulas provide a method of simplifying seemingly complex integrals. For example, a reduction formula would put the integral (sec^6 x) in terms of n to solve it much faster then executing the integral 6 times.
