Where is the line y = 5-2x closest to (0,0)?
This may be easy question, but i m beginner and i m kind of confuse so please help!
you should be familiar w/ the distance formula ...
$\displaystyle D = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2}$
points are $\displaystyle (x,5-2x)$ and $\displaystyle (0,0)$
$\displaystyle D = \sqrt{(x-0)^2 + [(5-2x)-0]^2}$
simplify, find $\displaystyle D'$ and minimize like you were taught in class ...
