    y=9x^2-8x+4+1/x

    So I am thinking you have to times the exponent?? 18x-8+4...and then I am lost. Any help?? Thanks?

    Differentiate each term using the rule \displaystyle \frac{d}{dx}(a\,x^n) = na\,x^{n-1} and recall that \displaystyle \frac{1}{x} = x^{-1}.
