    Calculus applications

Hi. I'm newer here, I'm from Brazil...
I'd like to know some calculus applications, like a bridge's project.
I study at a University here in Brazil and my teacher said is possible to project a bridge mathmatically. Ok, I know it's true, but I don't understand how I can project a bridge mathmatically and to do the graphic to seem to be really like a real bridge.

    Can you help me?

A bridge can be designed as a parabola. There is a grade going in and a grade going out. We have a vertical curve. Is that what you mean?. There's lots of math which goes into bridge design. Maybe you can be more specific as to what you want.

theres alot of diffrent factors on the bridge design, from the above mentioned to thermal expansion and strain of the material in the bridge. But yeh, you could slowly and surely build a bridge on paper using just math. ( and some material properties)

Galileu has presented a parametric equations known as cycloid and he said this equation we can design a bridge. This equation seem to be like a parabola. But ok, imagine a parabola who describes a bridge, on the graphics it's ok, but how can I know if this bridge is nice mathmatically.
