The integral is nothing more than AREA under a curve. Integration is useful, because most graphs do not have nice straight lines and can't be solved using known formulas for areas of geometric shapes. This however, is a function with nice straight lines.

ALso, using F(a)-F(b) isn't any help because you don't know what the anti-derivative is; of course you don't need it in this instance. - January 21st 2011, 11:23 AMCaptainBlack
