    maxima/minima

    find the two numbers whose sum is 12 such that the sum of the square of one plus four times the other is a minimum

    what is the first step ?

    1. Let n, m the numbers in question.

    2. "Translate" the text into equations:

    [1]: m+n=12

    [2]: y = m^2+4n

    3. Substitute one variable in [2] and determine the minimum of y.
