    calculate the difference quotient given the function

    Given the function , calculate the difference quotient
    Can some one explain this? I plugged in -7/x for f(x) in the problem but then got stuck.

    your first step should look like this

    <br /> \frac{\frac{-7}{x}-\frac{-7}{a}}{x-a}

    just finsh with the algrebra
