    Am I right? (Sequences question)

    The question is:
    "Find a formula for the general term an of the sequence, assuming the pattern of the first few terms continues."
    {2,7,12,17, ...}

    The book's answer is:
    a_n = 5n - 3

    My answer is:
    a_(n+1) = a_n + 5

    So, am I right?

    Any input would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    The book's answer is: a_n = 5n - 3

    My answer is: a_(n+1) = a_n + 5
    Your text book gave the closed form.

    Your answer is in recursive form.
    But in order for your answer to be complete, you must add a_1=2
