For (1), Its $\displaystyle y=(x^4)^x$ Or $\displaystyle x^{(4^x)}$ ?
For (2), Use this: if $\displaystyle f$ is a differentiable $\displaystyle y=tanh(f(x))$, then $\displaystyle y'=sech^2(f(x)) f'(x)$.
