A few things:

#4: Your critical region is correct but the formula you have for $\displaystyle t$ on the same line is used to calculate the test statistic, not the critical value. The critical value is obtained from your table.

#5: The formula for $\displaystyle s$ is actually unnecessary seeing how you're**given**the sample standard deviation.

Now for your question. Just using tables, you won't be able to find the precise P-value that corresponds to your test statistic. The best thing you can do with the t-test is to give it bounds.

If you look in your table, notice that $\displaystyle t = 2.4$ (df = 15) falls in between $\displaystyle t = 2.249$ and $\displaystyle t = 2.602$ which corresponds to p-values of 0.2 and 0.1 respectively (remember, this is just the upper tail so don't forget to adjust your bounds seeing how this is a**two**-tailed test).

This should give you the necessary information to either reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis. - Feb 19th 2010, 08:52 PMnameck
