finding intervals on a continuous line of a given function

Determine a and b so that the following function is continuous on (-infinity, infinity).

f(x)= 3x-2, 2<x<4 (x is actually greater than or equal to 2 and less than or equal to 4)

    f(x)= x^2+ax+b, lx-3l> or equal to 1
