    Find derivative

    I have an example with the answer but the book doesn't show the steps on how to get the answer. Could someone kindly explain what steps are needed to get the answer?

    are you familiar with the power rule for derivatives?

    Also note that f(x)= x+ \frac{1}{x}= x^1+ x^{-1}.

    Now use the power law.
