# Thread: Urgent help with intersection of line and plane

1. ## Urgent help with intersection of line and plane

Ok, so i know the basic formula for finding the intercection of line x=2 +t, y=-1-t,z=-3-5t and plane 3x + 19t -7z -8=0 and i came up with 0t=0.

Now usually this would conclude that there is no point of intersection and that the line and plane are parallel..BUT... since the value that 0t=0! wouldnt this mean that the line and plane are coincident?

Please show me how to prove this, i do not fully understand whether they are coincident or not and i need this for my assignment due monday!

What you are finding is that any point on the line satisfies the equation defining the plane. Therefore the line is in the plane.

3. alright that makes sense!
so i just sub in any point and it should satisfy the plane?
thanks thats all
