    span of vectors

    The span of vectors (1,1) and (3,1) is all of R^2. Find s and t so that (a,b) = s(1,1) + t(3,1).

Span of vectors = the set of all posible linear combinations of those vectors...and this belongs to linear algebra, not to calculus.
