1. ## [SOLVED] derivative

how do I derivative this: sqrt x

Well this is my attempt.
=x^1/2
=1/2 x^-1/2
=1/(1/2sqrtx).
I am stuck there.
Also is that right, please check.
Thanks

You're almost right, but you got the $\displaystyle 2$ in the wrong place on the last line:

$\displaystyle f(x) =x^{\frac12}$

$\displaystyle \Rightarrow f'(x) =\tfrac12 (x^{-\tfrac12})$

$\displaystyle =\frac{1}{2\sqrt{x}}$

PS Take the trouble to learn LaTeX - it makes your working much more readable. If you want to see the LaTeX code on any of the lines above, just click the mouse on it.
