recall the definition of |x| = x if x

__>__0

= -x if x < 0

(x + x^2) / |x| = (x+x^2)/x = (1+x) if x > 0 use this for the right hand limit

(x + x^2) / |x| = (x+x^2)/-x = -(1+x) if x > 0 use this for the left hand limit
