# Math Help - simple derivative

1. ## simple derivative

what is the derivative of e^(x)-1?

2. If it's $f(x) = e^x - 1$, then $f'(x)=e^x$.

If it's $f(x)= e^{x-1}$, then $f'(x) = e^{x-1}$

$y = e^x - 1$

$\frac{dy}{dx} = e^x$

$y = e^{x-1}$

$\frac{dy}{dx} = e^{x-1}$

in general ...

$\frac{d}{dx} [e^u] = e^u \cdot \frac{du}{dx}$

where $u$ is a function of $x$
