Negative Base with a Power

Hello,

Can someone help me with this: -x^2? Is it (-x)^2 or -(x^2)?

$-x^2=-(x^2)$

Remember order of operations: exponents before multiplication. $-x^2$ is the same as $-1\times x^2$ .
