    f(x)= (x+1)^2(x-2).

    Absolute or local extrema? I'll assume absolute.

    f'(x) = 3*(x - 1)*(x + 1)

    0 = 3*(x - 1)*(x + 1)

    x = -1, 1

    (-inf, -1) +
    (-1, 1) -
    (1, inf) +

    Thus, we have a relative maximum at x = -1, and a relative minimum at x = 1.
