    describe S

the rectangular coordinates of the surface S is given by (x-1)^2+y^2 =1.

Describe S geometrically. What kind of surface is S?

    Thank you very much.

    The xy plane the equation,
    (x-1)^2+y^2=1
    Is a circle.

In xyz space this is a cyclinder, because the z variable is missing. Thus, it is a circle moved up and down along the z-axis direction, hence a cylinder.
