Graphing an equation on TI-84+ SE
I'm trying to figure out how to enter the following problem on my TI-84+SE:

"Graph the equation -2x-y=1 using slope-intercept form."

What keystrokes do I need to execute to do this? Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't know how to put y into equations either.

The problems I'm working on are not for a class, they're from books I'm studying to get ready for the CLEP test. I'm just trying to apply the calculator to the problems.

Hello,

1. transcribe the equation to: $\displaystyle y = -2x-1$
2. go to the $\displaystyle \boxed{y=}\text{-editor}$
3. write at \Y1= -2x - 1. Take care that you use the $\displaystyle \boxed{(-)}\text{-key}$ to type the sign in front of 2x
4. open the $\displaystyle \boxed{\text{WINDOW}}\text{-editor}$:
I suggest that you use the following settings:
xmin = -5
xmax = 4
xscl = 1
ymin = -5
ymax = 4
yscl = 1
xres = 1
5. press the $\displaystyle \boxed{\text{GRAPH}}\text{-button}$ to draw the graph.

Does that mean everything is solved as y?
Thanks, Earboth!

Does that mean that everything is solved as y?

Let's say I have something like 3x * 35y * 22z.

Do I need to solve z as y, x as y and y as y?

If so, can you tell me how that would be done with keystrokes? Maybe there's a better example you can give me.

I don't know how to make signs for square root, etc. on this keyboard. Any advice?

Thanks again

Hello,

honestly I don't understand what you mean.

1. You can only solve an equation. What you have given is a term in 3 veriables which you can't "solve". Please say what you want to do with this term.

2. As for the mathematical symbols which are used at this forum have a look here: http://www.mathhelpforum.com/math-help/735-post1.html
