The first thing you should do is learn the definition of "percentage"- it means a hundredth, a fraction with 100 in the denominator- though since the denominator is always 100 you only write the numerator. To find what percentage A is of Q, first find what fraction it is: divide A by Q. Then, because you want 100 in the denominator, multiply and divide by 100.

To find what fraction 71 is or 355, divide 71 by 355: \frac{71}{355}= 0.2. Now multiply and divide by 100: \frac{0.2*100}{100}= \frac{20}{100}. Finally, since the "100 in the denominator" is understood for a percentage, write it as 20%.

    Going the other way, to find, say, 30% of 500, remember that 30% means \frac{30}{100} multiply by \frac{30}{100}= 0.30: \frac{30}{100}(500)= 3(5)= 15.
