Need help with turning word problems into an equation please
Here is my problem I'm completely lost on for the past few hours, and can;t get any help until after it is due on monday. If you could please solve this for me and give me all the steps so I can go over it and learn it properly, and hopefully be able to do the rest on my own. Thanks very much.
I need to define the variables, write the equation, and solve. My main problem is figuring out how to make this problem into an equation.
16. Kingdom, a toy chain, placed a seasonal order for two different stuffed animals. The polar bears cost $11.25 each and the penguins cost $8.75 each. The total cost of the order is $2,042.50 for 210 pieces. How many of each animal were ordered?
Number of polar bears ordered: ___________
Number of penguins ordered: ___________
Equation:_________________________________________ ____________

Re: Need help with turning word problems into an equation please
so I have been researchin all day on this and trying it a million different ways. I belive I would want 2 seperate equations but not quite sure, here are the equations I have came up with
11.25x + 8.75y= 2,042.50
x+y=210
are these the correct equations? if so how do i use these to solve for x and y?
I appreciate any help given as I've spent hours on this and am basically getting no where

Correct equations! You must need some sleep (Sleepy)
From [2]: y = 210 - x ; substitute in [1]:
11.25x + 8.75(210 - x) = 2042.50
11.25x + 1837.50 - 8.75x = 2042.50
OK? Wrapper up(Wondering)
