Thread: Optimization problem

Hi,

OK here's what I'm trying to do. Lets say I have 25 items of different values and I have 15 slots. I want to place those items in those slots such that the sum of the values of items in each slot is minimized. It's kind of like the knapsack problem, but its a little different. Can you point me to the right algorithm? I need to write this into VBA code for my job, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hard to tell what you mean.
Say we have 3 slots and 5 items at 1,3,4,7,9; is this what you have in mind:
Slot1 : 3,4
Slot2 : 1,7
Slot3 : 9
