    If mikes salary is $x per year, then for the salaries to be in the required
    ratio:

    x/22000=3/4

    which you need to solve for x.

    Here is another way.

    One has 3x.
    The other has 4x.
    (Note the ratio is 3:4).

    In sum they have,
    3x+4x=22000
    7x=22000
