# Math Help - Yards of fencing

1. ## Yards of fencing

Two squares, one with an area of 5 square yards and the other with an area of 125 square yards, both require fencing to enclose their respected areas. How many yards of fencing will be needed to enclose the squares?

Thanks again!

Let the sides of the two squares be x and y. The areas are x^2 = 5 and y^2 = 125, respectively.

Find $x=\sqrt{5}$ and $y=5$.

The amount is fencing is measured by the perimeter. Since each square has four equal sides, the total fencing is 4x for the first square and 4y for the second square.
Hope this helps.

Good luck!
