linear equation problem

hey all, im new to this forum, and im new to linear equations
i was wondering if someone could help me out with this

2c+5
____ = 7
6

how exactly do i go about working this out?

Easier if you use / as division sign: (2c + 5) / 6 = 7

Multiply by 6:
2c + 5 = 42

Can you finish it?

c = 18½ right?

sorry to bother you again, but i keep getting stuck on this equation
its another linear one

2m+3 = m+4

i keep getting m = ½

i do it like this,

2m+3=m+4
2m=m+4-3
2m=m+1
m= 1/2
i dont get it
the answer sheet says the answer is 1
what did i do wrong?!
