    Slope of an equation.

If I am asked a question such as

Find the slope of y = x^2+1 at points (1,2)

Am i correct in using the y = mx+c Formula.

    So I would say y = \frac{1}{1} + 1 So the slope is 1?

to find the slope of a curve at a point, you need to use the methods of differential calculus.
