    (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2<br />
    so 2(a+b)^2 = 2(a^2 + 2ab + b^2) = 2a^2 + 4ab + 2b^2

this is not expanding, this is enlarging ...

    expanding is something like

    2\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ (a\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ +\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ b)^2
