    Story problem

    In a bottling company, a machine can fill a 2-liter bottle in 0.5 second and move the next bottle into place 0.1 second. How many
    2-liter bottles can be filled by the machine in 2 hours?

    Please can you show me how you come up with the answer.

    Hello,

    let x be the numbers of filled and moved bottles.

    Then the time to fill these bottles is 0.5*x and the time to move them is 0.1*x. Remember 1 h = 3600 s.

    Thus you get the equation:
    0.5 \cdot x + 0.1 \cdot x = 2\ h=7200. Solve for x:

    x=\frac{7200}{0.6}=12,000\text{ bottles}
