    Red face Equation word problem

    If the sum of two numbers is 5 and their difference is 2, what is their product?

    This problem is for extra points.

    We have,
    x+y=5
    x-y=2
    Add,
    2x=7
    x=3.5

    Substitute into first equation,
    3.5-y=2
    y=1.5
    Thus,
    xy=(1.5)(3.5)
