Word Problem help
A computer manufacturer reduced the price of its model X computer by 3%. If the new price of the model X computer is \$2489, the how much did the computer cost, in dollars, before its price was reduced? (Round to the nearest dollar)

This problem is for extra points, that I really need.

X(.97) = amount the computer cost before the price was reduced.

Or, 2489*(.03) = y; 2489 - y = same value.

Answer: \$2414.33; rounded to the nearest dollar = \$2414

I don't agree with this Aftershock.

They're asking for the price before reductions, and you came out with a cheaper price than after the reductions were applied!

Let $x$ be the original value of the computer.

Since the price was \$2489 after 3% was taken off the original price... we have..

Original Price - (Reduction % * Original Price) = New Price

So.
$x - .03x = 2489$
$.97x = 2489$
$x \approx 2566$

\$2566

Indeed, misread the question. Thanks, Jacob.
