    Converting Decimals of hours to times of day

    How does one convert 5.2865 and 8.7134 hours into times of day, to the nearest minute?

    I would multiply the decimal part of these numbers by 3/5.

    So 5.2865 = 5: (3/5) x 0.2865 = 5:17 or 5 hours and 17 minutes.

    Here comes an other attempt:

    1 h = 60 min

    Therefore:

    5.2865 \ h = 5\ h + 0.2865\ h = 5\ h + 0.2865\ h \cdot \dfrac{60\ min}h = 5\ h + 17.19\ min
