this is the ? You have at least 10 items. Can you separate your items into 2 equal halves? Can you split each half into 2 more piles? What fraction of total are these piles? Try starting with different numbers of items. thank you Lilly belle

3. please forget the finding bit

I have rewritten the question as I used 10 pencils please can I have the answer to the rest of the question ...thank you LB

to separate some number of objects into two piles with an equal number of objects, you divide the number by 2. if it is even, then you can divide it, if not, then you can't. (not unless you break one of the objects in half. which mommy probably won't be happy with )

5. thank you so much jhevon - this my granddaughters homework, sadly Nannie was never any good at maths. English! now that I'm good at ;-) lilly belle

lets say we have 6 objects. can we split this into two piles with the same number of objects? sure. each pile will have 6/2 = 3 objects in it. can we half each of these new half piles? no, not unless you want 3/2 = 1.5 objects in each. so we'd have to break something in two...
