    Solve the following equation

    For the following 2 equations

    1) x^3 - 1 = 0
    and
    2) x^3 + 1 = 0

    to eork out do you just
    1) x^3 = 1
    x = 2sqr root 1??

    and x^3 = -1
    x = 2sqr root -1??

    Thanks

    x^3 - 1 = 0<br />

    (x-1)(x^2 + x + 1) = 0

    x = 1 , x = \frac{-1 \pm i\sqrt{3}}{2}

    x^3 + 1 = 0

    (x+1)(x^2 - x + 1) = 0

    x = -1 , x = \frac{1 \pm i\sqrt{3}}{2}

    Since you ask this question, it is clear that you only require real solutions to your equations. So don't worry about the solutions with i in them - they are not real.
