# Math Help - subscript?

1. ## subscript?

I can't figure out what subscript refers to with any variable. I know superscript means exponent, but what of subscript numbers?

I'm looking at the point-slope form of the equation of a line.

In the equation $y-y_0=m\left(x-x_0\right)$, $\left(x_0,y_0\right)$ is the point that the line goes through. Here, the subscripts tell us that we are dealing with numerical values instead of a variable.

Thank you.
