    Performance based income: piecework

    the question is:

the forestt co. assembles boxes for transportation. they pay $16 dollars for every 12 boxes assembled. if a worker assembles 115 boxes in one day, what is his or her gross pay for a 5day week? payment is made only for completed sets of 12 calculated on a weekly basis.

i have been trying to do this for soo long can anyone explain what to do?

    5(115)/12 = 47.91, so the worker makes 47 complete sets of 12 boxes in 1 week. So s/he gets paid (47)($16) = ......

My advice to the worker is to stay back a few minutes and finish the last box needed to complete the 48th 12 box lot .... (See how useful maths is!)
