1. Word Problem

A pallet that is hanging by a chain is being lowered from the top of a building by a rotating crank. Every 2 minutes the pallet moves down 16 feet. After 4 minutes the pallet is 96 feet above the ground. Write an equation that gives the height above the ground in terms of minutes passed. How tall is the building and how long dfoes it take for the pallet to reach the ground?

This is all I can figure out. >.<; Can someone help me with making up an equation in terms of minutes passed? D:

The height is changing linearly with time so the equation takes the form:

h=mt+c

where m is the rate of change of height with time (-8 ft/min) and you are told that when t=4, h=96. So now you can find c.

You figured out height correctly i.e 128feet.
$\displaystyle \frac{\Delta height}{\Delta time}$$\displaystyle =\frac{16}{2}$$\displaystyle =8feet/min$

I am kind of tired, so I could be wrong however. Would the equation be different if it was based off of "In terms of minutes passed"

"constant" - it is the height of the pallet at t=0.
