1. ## Need help with fraction problem solving- help please

Cindy spent 1/8 of her money on candy and 1/4 of her money at the movies.
She had $25.00 left How much did she have to start with. Need help with daughters 4th grade math- please help Thanks, Neil Ps I need to show the work 2. I indeed messed up.. .. knew i was missing it somewhere. My apologize. 3. Originally Posted by ixo $\frac{\25}{8} + \frac{\25}{4} +\25 =$ total amount Ixo , you have done a bit of carelessness here, $\frac{\25}{8} + (\frac{\25}{4}\cdot \frac{2}{2}) +(\25\cdot \frac{8}{8} )=$ total amount $\frac{25}{8} + \frac{50}{8} +\frac{200}{8} =$ total amount $\frac{275}{8} =$ total amount $\34.375 =$ total amount Which doesn't make sense because movies didn't cost that much back when they were using 1/10 th of a cent Lets say Cindy has x$ in the beginning

Now the equation that we can form with this is

$
x = \frac{x}{4}+\frac{x}{8} + 25

$

Hence

$
x= \frac{2x+x}{8} + 25
$

$

x - \frac{3x}{8} = 25

$

$\frac{5x}{8} = 25$

Hence

$x= \frac{200}{5} = 40$

Thus starting amount is 40$Please show the work to your daughter and ask if she still has troubles Best of Luck Adarsh 4. Thankyou Adarsh, I came up with the answer of$40 by process of elimination,
but I could not show my work.
I thankyou again for showing me.
Neil
