    2nd Algebraic Fraction question

    2k-3 - 3k + 1
    ____ ____
    6 8

    The answer is :

    - (k +15)
    ________
    24

    I'm not sure how to get to the answer after many retries.

    Hi Nathaniel,

    \frac{2k-3}{6}-\frac{3k+1}{8}

    The GCF is 24.

    Multiply each term by 24 and place the result over 24.

    \frac{24\left(\frac{2k-3}{6}\right)-24\left(\frac{3k+1}{8}\right)}{24}

    \frac{4(2k-3)-3(3k+1)}{24}

    \frac{8k-12-9k-3}{24}

    \frac{-k-15}{24}

    \frac{-(k+15)}{24}

    What I was doing was:

    -3 x +1 = + 3 :|

    + and - = -
