Use the distributive property: $\displaystyle \frac{1}{3}\times3a+\frac{1}{3}\times2+\frac{1}{4} \times4a-\frac{1}{4}\times2$

Thus: $\displaystyle a+\frac{2}{3}+a-\frac{2}{4}$

then: $\displaystyle 2a+\frac{2}{3}-\frac{1}{2}$

Find the common denominator: $\displaystyle \frac{12a}{6}+\frac{4}{6}-\frac{3}{6}$

Subtract to get: $\displaystyle \frac{12a}{6}+\frac{1}{6}$

Add: $\displaystyle \frac{12a+1}{6}$

Which can be rewritten as (if you want): $\displaystyle \frac{1}{6}(12a+1)$
