To learn about basic polynomial terms (such as "term", "monomial", "binomial", etc), try some online lessons to supplement the information in your textbook and your class notes.

There are also loads of online lessons available for completing the square. Study at least two lessons, and make sure you take the time to work through all of the examples, so that you're sure you're understanding the process.

Please post specific problems you are having, and post specific problems from homework, etc.. and it will be much easier to help. It is very hard to help when one is so general.

4. As far as completing the square goes, I would suggest these formulas over others that I've seen because the others are too confusing!!

$f(x)=a(x-h)^2+k$

$h= \frac{b}{2a}$

$k=\frac{4ac-b^2}{4a}$
