Thread: reducing problem (LCD)

in my book in makes the LCD 24 but why can it not be 18 since 8x2=16
and 6x3=16 ????



I get 29/16 the book gets 41/24 because its using 24(LCD)



What am I doing wrong????

ya 8*2 is 16, but 16 cannot be divided by 6 without remainder, 6*3 = 18 not 16. so what you have done is wrong there.

so the common one is 8*3 = 6*4 = 24

7/8*3/3= 21/24
5/6*4/4 = 20/24
adding we get 41/24.
