when 7 times a number is decreased by 8, the answer is the same as when 3 times the number is increased by 4. find the number.

7*x - 8 = 3*x + 4

Solve for x;

4*x = 12

x = 3

In other words:

That's your equation, therefore when you subtract both sides by 3n you get: $4n-8=4$

Add 8 to both sides to get: $4n=12$

divide by 4: $n=3$
