3) rearrange the forumla to make x the subject y = b- ax(squared)

4) solve x(squared) + 5x + 4 = 0

I'll get you started on the first couple, make an attempt at the others

$\displaystyle 5x+5=3x+12$

$\displaystyle 5x -3x=12-5$

$\displaystyle 2x=7$

$\displaystyle x=7/2$

$\displaystyle x=3.5$

$\displaystyle x^2+5x+4$

$\displaystyle =(x+4)(x+1)$

$\displaystyle x=\pm \sqrt{\frac{y-b}{-a}}$

$\displaystyle x=\pm \sqrt{\frac{b-y}{a}}$
