Ali saved twice as much as Ramat. Maria saved 60$ more than Ramat. If they saved $600 altogether, how much did Maria save?
Hi loutja35!
Ali's savings =: a
Ramat's savings =: r
maria's savings =: m
Ali saved twice as much as Ramat (for example Ali has 100$, then Ramat has 50$ -> $100 =2*$50) Therefor
(1) a = 2*r
Maria saved 60$ more than Ramat (if Ramat gets $60 more, he has the same savings as Maria)
(2) maria = r+$60
If they saved $600 altogether (Ali's savings + Ramats savings + Marias savings = $600)
(3) a+r+m = $600
You need to solve the three equations (can you?)
And the solutions I get:
a = $270
r = $135
m = $195
