    Finding Percentage increase and decrease

    Please help me! Show me the counting "formula" for the solution. Thanks!!!

    - How much is the raise (in procents) from 102 to 185 ?

    - How many procents is the "dropping" from 200 to 180 ?

    there are several ways to do problems like this. the shorter way is to set 102 + 102x = 185 and solve for x. this gives you the decimal value form of the percentage. multiply by 100 to get the percentage.

    as you may have trouble seeing why that works, another method is to first find the difference.

    185 - 102 = 83

    so we increased by 83. now the task is to find what percentage of 102 is 83

    that's given by \frac {83}{102} \times 100


    the second question can be done in a similar manner
